Justin B. Webb Learning Center

Justin Webb Learning Center

The Justin B. Webb Learning Center is a facility designed to help members improve their computer skills in a classroom environment. The facility features twenty computers for student use, with class instructional material projected onto a large screen. All computers have the latest operating system, basic software, a high-speed Internet connection and flat-panel monitors. Areas of instruction include basic and intermediate computer skills, the Internet and email, and a variety of specific applications. All teachers are volunteer members. There is a small fee for each class. Enrollment does not require membership in the PC Club, but members receive a discount. Photo courtesy of Norm Salzberg.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need more Greeters. Greeters sit at the desk in the Workshop to sign people in and keep them informed of what's happening in the PC Club.

We need more Supervisors. Supervisors circulate in the Workshop and help patrons solve their PC problems. If you are knowledgeable on PCs and software, please volunteer a few hours a week (or more) to assist individuals who would love to learn from you. Please contact Bob Sellards at Bob511@comline.com.

We need more Instructors to teach classes and SIGs at the Learning Center. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Roger Turner at rturner2u@gmail.com or call 707-1395.

Year2010

In addition to classes, the Learning Center also hosts short Special Interest Group (SIG) learning sessions. These sessions focus on a particular subject of interest, do not require any enrollment and are free. SIG sessions are less formal and have open question-and-answer periods. SIG presenters include PC Club members who share their knowledge, experience, and interests, as well as selected outside sources.

SIGs

The SIGs are held at the Justin Webb Learning Center. They are free of charge and do not require any pre-registration. Room capacity is 55. Please come early to ensure a seat.

September 2010 SIG: Personal Information Security

SIGs are held generally on the second Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the PC Learning Center located on the 3rd floor of the Laguna Woods Village Community Center.
