Justin B. Webb Learning Center

Justin Webb Learning Center

The Justin B. Webb Learning Center is a facility designed to help members improve their computer skills in a classroom environment. The facility features twenty computers for student use, with class instructional material projected onto a large screen. All computers have the latest operating system, basic software, and a high-speed Internet connection. New flat-panel monitors were installed in May 2005. Areas of instruction include basic and intermediate computer skills, the Internet and email, and a variety of specific applications. All teachers are volunteer members. There is a small fee for each class, and enrollment requires membership in the PC Club. Photo courtesy of Norm Salzberg.

Wanted: Education Director for 2009

Over the years the PC Club has built a state-of-the-art learning facility, giving full support to the club's education program. Hundreds of residents have taken advantage of this service, and the classes have helped many individuals get their start on computers. Many former students have become club volunteers and now share their knowledge with other members.

Effective 12-31-08, the current education chairman, Ok Park, will resign, and the PC Club will need a new education director. The education program is the life blood of the PC Club and a major part of the Club's service to Laguna Woods Village.

Perhaps there is someone in the PC Club or in the communiy who is capable and willing to chair this valuable service. Your assistance is urgently needed. It would be very sad to close this service. If you are that person, please contact President Roger Turner at rturner@hotmail.com.

In addition to classes, the Learning Center also hosts short Special Interest Group (SIG) learning sessions. These sessions focus on a particular subject of interest, do not require any enrollment and are free. SIG sessions are less formal and have open question-and-answer periods. SIG presenters include PC Club members who share their knowledge, experience, and interests, as well as selected outside sources.

SIGs

The SIGs are held at the Justin Webb Learning Center. They are free of charge and do not require any pre-registration. Room capacity is 54. Please come early to ensure a seat.

Saturday  Dec. 13 1:15 PM Digital Scrapbooking(1 hour)
Do you have a lifetime of pictures in boxes or falling out of albums? Are your digital photos still in your camera or on your computer? Get them organized and into a digital scrapbook. Once your photos are organized, select only those that help tell your story. Ideas for books include heritage, faith, hobbies, trips, clubs, sports, family reunions, family recipes and much more. A digital scrapbook can be as simple as dragging and dropping photos into a predesigned page or creating a page totally from scratch. Come learn how easy it can be.
