Free Tax Program – News

Did you Receive Your California State Middle Class Tax Refund
As of today, the State of California has issued $7.5 Billion in State Middle Class Tax Refunds to California Residents.   California issued 6.9 million direct deposits into checking accounts and issued 6.8 million debit cards.  Most California residents received $350 for single to $700 for married filing jointly.  The debit cards came in a white envelope with a return address of Omaha, NE.

Did you get yours or perhaps did you get the envelope and thought it was an advertisement for VISA
and you threw it out.

Below is the link to the States Franchise Tax board which explains the program and when your direct deposit or debit card should have been issued.  This income is not taxable income.

Tax Appointments

We are gearing up the upcoming tax seasons.  Drop off location this year will at
Clubhouse 6 starting January 31, 2023, by appointment only.  Appointments will open on January 16, 2023.

This year we will be encouraging residents who may not be required to
file a tax return or haven’t filed a return in the past few years to file a return for 2022.

Filing a tax return will protect your identity and ensure that no one has filed a tax return in your name.   Filing a tax return will also make sure that the Federal and the State Government has your most current information for any future stimulus that may be issued.  Besides the California Stimulus, which is not taxable,
there were no federal stimulus issued in 2022.

RMD – DID YOU TAKE YOURS YET

Just a reminder if you have an IRA and are over the age of 72 you are required to take an RMD by December 31, 2022.  If you do not take your RMD by that date, the IRS will charge you a 50% penalty.  Check with your brokerage or bank to make sure you have met your RMD requirement or if it is on schedule to be
withdrawn by the December 31, 2022, deadline.

Do you need to make an Estimated Tax Payment

Don’t be surprised with a tax penalty when you file your 2022 taxes.  To avoid an underpayment penalty, individuals whose adjusted gross income (AGI) is $150,000 or less must pay the lesser of 90% of the current year’s tax or 100% of last year’s tax, by combining estimated and withholding taxes.  If you owed taxes last year you may want to consider making a 4th quarter estimated tax payment by January 16, 2023, and don’t forget to make a
California State Estimated payment.

If you have any questions about making estimated tax payments, contact taxes@thepcclub.org.

If you have any questions regarding our Free Tax Program or want to confirm if you qualify, contact Taxes@thepcclub.org
